CANCELLED: The Blues Brothers (15) Open Air Cinema at Tinside Lido

Saturday 19th August

It is with huge regret that we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel this evening's Open Air Cinema screening of THE BLUES BROTHERS.

We are currently at Tinside Lido and the wind gusts have made it impossible to put up the kit that protects our projection equipment. The wind forecasts say it may drop after 10pm but obviously we have to make the decision to cancel well before that to give everyone enough time and so that nobody has a wasted journey. Obviously this is the last thing we want to do, especially as the weather may improve later tonight, but we have to err on the side of caution.

We have rescheduled the event to take place indoors, in our cinema at Arts University Plymouth, Tavistock Place, on Thursday 24 August. We would love you to join us to watch The Blues Brothers with a complimentary drink.

If you are a ticket holder, we have sent you an email in which you can choose to attend the rescheduled event, or receive a refund or credit note.

Dir. John Landis, US, 1980. 142 mins. Cast. John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Carrie Fisher, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and every brilliant soul singer in the history of music!

Two brothers trying to put together a band and raising money for the orphanage that moulded them sounds like a straightforward story. Throw in John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, the biggest car chase in film history and a killer soundtrack from the most iconic singers in the world and what you get is pure, unadulterated joy.

“It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses – Hit it.”

For detailed information about the film's age rating and potential triggering contents, you can visit the BBFC website and search the film title, then scroll down to the “ratings info” section: www.bbfc.co.uk

This event will include a screening of short film: Impact
Dir: Arts University Plymouth Digital Media Production 3rd Year student Jack Kruyswijk. Running time: 1m 39s.

Impact is a heart wrenching short film that explores the fragility of life and love. The film starts with a couple enjoying a picnic in the picturesque countryside, their love for each other evident in every touch and glance. They then embark on a scenic drive through the moorland, immersed in the beauty of nature around them. But their journey is cut short when they collide head-on with another car, causing the airbags to blow. We never know if they make it out alive. When everything feels too perfect, and possibilities endless - can you prevent tragedy?

Venue: Tinside Lido, Hoe Rd, Plymouth PL1 3DE

Doors and bar open from 7.30pm, film starts from 9.15pm or shortly after as soon as light levels are low enough to project on the screen.
