72 Hour Film Challenge – with Plymouth College of Art

Friday 10th December 2021 - Monday 13th December 2021

Plymouth College of Art’s first ever 72 hr Film Challenge is an invitation for young people aged 15-19 to produce a short film (no more than 7 minutes) focused on a specific theme. For this first competition, the theme will be focused on the festive season. Entry is free, and as well as a brand new GoPro 10 kit, there are some great prizes available for the winning films.

Teachers who sign up will be sent a link to a digital package on 9 December that they can share with their students at 9am on Friday 10 December. This digital pack will include the brief, including the title for the film, a line of dialogue, and a prop, which must be used in the final film. It will also include some guidance on key areas of filmmaking, such as lighting, sound recording, directing actors and editing.

Filmmakers will have 72 hours from 9am on Friday 10 December until 9am on Monday 13 December to submit their finished films. As part of the competition, all films submitted will be premiered at a screening on Monday 13 December from 4-6pm at Plymouth Arts Cinema. The screening will also be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person.

The films will be judged by a team of professional filmmakers, curators, and lecturers from the BA (Hons) Film and Screen Arts, and BA (Hons) Sound Arts degree programs. The winning entries and filmmakers will be presented with:

  • Free tickets to a screening of their choice at Plymouth Arts Cinema,
  • A production consultation with one of the filmmakers who teach on the BA (Hons) Film and Screen Arts degree at Plymouth College of Art,
  • A voucher towards submitting your film for other film festivals,
  • A brand new GoPro 10 kit for their school or college.
