Saturday 30th April 2022

Plymouth After Dark: Bowie Double Bill

On April 30th, 1972, David Bowie played Plymouth Guildhall in his incarnation as Ziggy Stardust. As a 50th anniversary celebration of this we are screening a special double-bill of two of his finest and most enigmatic screen performances: Bowie’s first starring role in The Man Who Fell to Earth and live-concert film Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

DOUBLE BILL OFFER: Get tickets for both films for £12 per person. (Offer valid if tickets are purchased under one transaction. To book online: put tickets for the 2 films in the basket and the offer will apply automatically to each set of tickets).

The Man Who Fell to Earth (18)

Dir. Nicholas Roeg, UK, 1976, 139 mins.

Directed by Nicolas Roeg, Bowie’s first starring role was as Thomas Jerome Newton, an alien outfitted in human skin who’s forced to come to earth to save his dying planet. Roeg found in Bowie’s eccentricity just what he was looking for: not an actor trying to play an alien, but a lost soul trying to play a human.
