PAC FUNDRAISER: Violette – FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL

Friday 4th December

This is a special event, raising funds for Plymouth Arts Cinema.

We’re bringing back our popular fundraiser, cheese-tasting night, this time with an exclusive French Film Festival preview of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s long-awaited new film Violette, ahead of its release in France on December 9th.

The event will start in the cinema from 6.30pm, with a 5-10 mins talk by Matthew Onuki Luke and cheese tasting, followed by the film. There will be more cheese tasting in the bar area after the screening. The Bar and Box Office will be open from 5pm, we recommend arriving early for drinks and a chance to take part in our fundraising raffle.

Matthew Onuki Luke has over eight years' experience in the artisan cheese industry. He has worked in some of the top cheesemongers in London, supplying the finest cheeses from the UK and Europe and advising Michelin-starred restaurants on all their cheese needs. Having relocated to Plymouth, he now works for the Academy of Cheese providing cheese education for all.

Full Price £15 / Concession £14. Each ticket includes a £5.50 donation to Plymouth Arts Cinema. PAC Friend discounts, complimentary tickets and Champion tickets do not apply to this event. Please consider adding a further donation to your booking when you reach checkout.

About the film: Violette (age rating tbc)

Original title: Changer l’eau des fleurs

Dir. Jean-Pierre Jeunet, France, 2026, 137 mins. In French with English subtitles. Cast. Leila Bekhti, Matthias Schoenaerts, Melvil Poupaud, Anouk Grinberg, Sergio Castellitto, Alban Lenoir, Dominique Pinon.

Amélie director Jean-Pierre Jeunet has adapted Valérie Perrin’s international best-seller Fresh Water for Flowers with a stellar cast among them Leila Bekhti, Melvil Poupaud and Anouk Grinberg.

Co-written by Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant, Bekhti plays Violette Toussaint, a beloved cemetery caretaker whose peaceful life – filled by conversations with quirky workers and the many visitors who share their stories of love, loss, and life – is thrown off course when a mysterious stranger shows up on her doorstep compelling her to confront her troubled past filled with hidden truths.

Violette comes to understand that the truth behind long-buried mysteries in her past must be uncovered if she wants to take another chance on life and, against all odds, love. The film marks Jeunet’s return to cinema after a gap of 13 years since The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet.
