Grease (PG) Open Air Cinema at Tinside Lido

Saturday 3rd September 2022

It is with huge regret that we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel Saturday’s Open Air Cinema screening of Grease and Sunday evening’s Open Air Cinema screening of Cabaret.

The safety and comfort of our customers is of the utmost importance to us and we have been scanning weather forecasts at BBC Weather, the Met Office and Southwest Storm Chasers over the past 24 hours. There is a very high risk of heavy rain, thunder storms and strong gusts of wind which will make the screenings dangerous on such an exposed site right at the water’s edge. We have to make a decision early in the day and there is always the risk that having decided to cancel, the weather clears up later in the evening, but we are sure you understand that we have to make a final decision and give everyone enough time to receive the cancellation information.

We have been running OAC events for over ten years and this is the first weekend we have had to cancel a screening. We are extremely disappointed and sorry to have to do this.

We are able to put the screening of Cabaret on in our cosy (and dry) Plymouth Arts Cinema instead so if you are a ticket holder, please check your email for further information.

Unfortunately we cannot schedule a replacement screening for Grease, but again, if you are a ticket holder, please check your email for further information.

Dir. Randal Kleiser, US, 1978, 110 mins. Cast. John Travolta, Olivia Newton John, Stockard Channing, Eve Arden, Joan Blondell, Frankie Avalon.

Please Note: Grease has been substituted for The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Sandy and Danny fell in love over the summer but when the two of them arrive at Rydell High School to unexpectedly discover they're now both students there, will they be able to rekindle their romance or find themselves caught between their two cliques? From jiving school dances and deadly drag-races, Pink Ladies to T-Birds, it’s sure to be quite a year for the class of 1958.

We all know the story but that's the joy. Grease is every bit the songfest you remember it as, with innuendo, laughs and a huge, huge heart. The perfect tribute to the ever-wonderful Olivia Newton-John. Sandy, we will all remain hopelessly devoted to you.

Plymouth Arts Cinema, along with many other cinemas, wanted to celebrate the career of Olivia Newton John who sadly died this week, and screening Grease at an Open Air Cinema Event is the best way we can think of to do that.
In tribute to Olivia Newton John and her advocacy work for breast cancer research, we will be donating 50p from every ticket sold to the charity Breast Cancer UK.
