If we’ve learnt anything from recent political events, it’s that the modern world is a scary and confusing place; terror threats, nanny states, fake news and eco disasters are just a few of the things to navigate whilst looking good on Instagram. Still, it’s not all bad news, just think of the ratings – probably best to stay inside anyway.

State of Emergency
Dir. Marisa Meier
A movie about a society in fear. It is the story of two soldiers in the everyday life of Paris guarding an official building. An abandoned bag, curious passants and a crazy tramp move the situation into its climax. The lines between normality and real danger disappears.

Angst
Dir. Rory Gibson
Amid the chaos of a violent anti-immigration protest, a teenage boy is party to an assault. Running from the police, he takes refuge with a Muslim shop owner whose son has gone missing in the chaos. Thrust together, the boy and woman are forced to confront their respective fears.

The Call
Dir. Ethan Jahan
At home in his apartment, a man obsessively cuts out stories of war and terror from newspapers while the TV news blares. Are his concerns well founded?

Longfield Drive
Dir. Kiosa Sukami
A dark political Crime Drama set in Oakland USA that looks to explore the sensitive & current issue of police racial profiling and shootings that plague the continent.

Gardeners of the Forest
Dir. Ceylan Carhoglu
For generations, Laos was known as the Land of a Million Elephants. Today, there are around 400 elephants left in Laos. If the Laotian elephants become extinct, not only does it mean a loss of one of the largest mammals on earth but also the loss for Laotian history and culture. This documentary explores how the Chinese market, deforestation, and tourism all play a role in the imminent extinction of elephants in Laos.
