Plymouth Arts Centre cinema needs your help

There have been big changes to Plymouth Arts Centre since the announcement by Arts Council England that it would no longer be funding our visual arts programme. As a result, after an incredible 40 years of films at Looe Street, Plymouth Arts Centre is moving its cinema and bar to a new home at Plymouth College of Art.
We’re very grateful to Plymouth City Council and to Plymouth College of Art for the amazing amount of support they have given us so far, but now we’re inviting you to get involved in securing the future of Plymouth’s independent film community by donating to our Crowdfunder campaign.
We are very excited, not only about the opportunity to secure a future for independent cinema in this city but also because we now have the chance to grow and to develop what we do. A key part of this is the creation of a new auditorium which is double our current size but which, crucially, still retains the unique, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere of the Looe Street cinema.
It is hugely important to us that we honour the reasons why people love visiting us – a friendly, cosy, welcoming space where they can have a drink before a film and meet friends to talk about what they have seen in the cinema.
Our aim is to continue to bring great cultural cinema to Plymouth and the surrounding areas, and when Plymouth College of Art offered us the opportunity to build a new 118-seat auditorium, we knew it would be the right move to ensure a sustainable future. We are asking for your help to raise the final funds we need to towards fitting out the new cinema with everything it needs to feel like a new home with a warm welcome.
Our Crowdfunder launched on Wednesday 21 November and we need your help.
This money will help us install brand new seating and add the finishing touches that make our cinema unique. Rewards for donating include everything from limited edition tote bags, a personalised seat plaque, to a private screening in the cinema for you and your friends or business colleagues. There is something for everyone and everything we raise goes into securing this thriving Independent cinema for the city.
We hope you can help and we very much look forward to seeing you at the cinema in the new year!
