In their mission to bring ever-greater audiences to films by women, Reclaim The Frame have moved their activities online for now. There are two fantastic events coming up this week.
The Perfect Candidate (PG)
Online Discussion Wednesday 15 April from 6pm
This Wednesday Oscar-winning producer and Birds’ Eye View Director-at-large Mia Bays and multi-award winning producer Uzma Hasan will be in conversation with the trailblazing director Haifaa Al Mansour discussing her latest film THE PERFECT CANDIDATE (with thanks to Modern Films).
After her debut feature Wadjda (2012) broke new ground as the first-ever film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia — and the first made by a Saudi woman — director Haifaa Al Mansour returns to the kingdom with The Perfect Candidate, a tale of one woman’s quest to challenge not only the system but also herself.
You can catch the film now on BFI Player, Curzon Home Cinema and Great Modern Things.
Great Modern Things is Modern Films’ own VoD platform, if you watch the film with them you also have an opportunity to donate to your local independent cinema, we’d urge you to support them during this difficult time – you can find out more here.
Watch the film between now and next week and then catch our discussion with Haifaa Al Mansour on Facebook Live via the Birds’ Eye View Facebook Page on Wednesday 15 April from 6.00pm (GMT).
Eye To Eye with Lynn Shelton
Friday 17 April 2020, 6pm
The launch of Birds’ Eye View’s brand new EYE TO EYE strand – in-depth conversations with some of the world’s most dynamic under-appreciated working female filmmakers. We are keen to use this time to plug work you may have missed because it went straight to VoD or had a small cinema release, or got overlooked (a common story).
Mia Bays will be chatting to filmmaker Lynn Shelton, she has been a huge fan of after falling in love with Shelton’s first film HUMPDAY, and feels Shelton is the most interesting of the so-called Mumblecore directors.
Her canon of work includes WE GO WAY BACK, YOUR SISTER’S SISTER, LAGGIES, OUTSIDE IN (the latter from 2018, starring Edie Falco, is astonishing – see it on Netflix now) and her latest release SWORD OF TRUST is available now on NOW TV, both platforms are offering free trials for new subscribers so we urge you to check out her films now.
The conversation will be broadcast on Facebook Live on the Birds Eye View Facebook Page.
