In case you missed this superb film earlier in the autumn, this is Rupert Everett’s long-planned portrait of Oscar Wilde. Following his release from prison, Wilde spent his last years a shadow of the character that he once was. Not that his waspish humour left him, as star and director Everett highlights in this intelligent and moving portrait. This superb performance by Everett, ably supported by Colin Firth and Emily Watson, conveys both the pain and preening of the noted author and wit.
