Javed is a Pakistani teenager who experiences racial and economic turmoil while living in Luton, England, in 1987. His life is changed when he discovers the music of Bruce Springsteen.

⚓ REMEMBRANCE (15)

This rarely seen British film is set around the pubs and clubs of the then-notorious Union Street in 1980s Plymouth and follows a group of young Royal Navy sailors during their last 24 hours ashore before their ship sets sail.

Drawing inspiration from archive footage and materials selected from The Box's collections, participants will discover different stories, perspectives and representations of the city through time and learn how to edit together a digital zine

Working in partnership with @fotonow_cic and @theboxplymouth, we will leave our expectations behind and see what happens.

THE LAND REMAINS + Director Intro + Q&A

Britain is an island shaped by memory, migration and the persistence of the past in the present.

Filmed over the course of a year, The Land Remains journeys through Britain’s pre-Christian ceremonies, seasonal traditions, and pagan practices, exploring the relationship between myth, landscape, migration, and national identity.

There will be a Q&A panel discussion around the film’s themes with the Director @deadbeatboris and special guest speakers in the cinema after the film, followed by a short networking session at the bar.

The film features prominent voices from the folk community, including folk singer and song collector @samleesong, and alchemist and apothecarist @pulvers.apothecary.

British feature documentary @thefastestbicyclefilm tells the amazing story of Barney Townsend and his team’s attempt at the World Human Powered Vehicle land speed record at Battle Mountain Nevada.

We will have a special screening at Plymouth Arts Cinema on Tuesday 22 September, with an introduction and Q&A with double BAFTA-winning Director Michael B. Clifford, and Adam Kyte, Lecturer in Mechanical and Marine Engineering Design at @plymuni. Adam led a Plymouth team at the Human Powered Speed Challenge, Nevada in 2016 setting a Women's World Record for hand cycling - they are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the world record this September.

We're pleased to host events with guest speakers for @37looestreet 's Bathing Places, @thefastestbicyclefilm, @deadbeatfilms' The Land Remains, @stateorgans and @derekvsderek.

The 2026 BFI FAN UK-wide season #RipItUp explores and celebrates the changing face of youth rebellion, culture and expression - from joy to heartbreak - on screen in the UK. Cut and Paste! - the PAC strand of the season, uses film as a starting point to explore what it feels like to be young in the city. Join us for zine workshops with @fotonow_cic and @theboxplymouth and screenings including Blinded by the Light and PAC favourite Remembrance.

An exhibition of new work by Judith Noble inspired by the lives and work of geologists Edward and Annie Greenly.

Over the last five years, artist Judith Noble Has created a body of work inspired by pioneer geologists Edward (1861 – 1951) and Annie (1852 – 1927) Greenly and their mapping of the geology of Ynys Môn. All these works have been made at one site; a rock outcrop on the beach at Rhosneigr that Edward Greenly drew and which featured in in his major work, The Geology of Anglesey.

Here’s another chance to catch it, at this special screening with an intro and Q&A from the brilliant community arts organisation @take_a_part_uk

Passionate sea swimmer turned reluctant activist, Exmouth-based Jo Bateman, she takes on one of the UK’s biggest water companies in a David-and-Goliath battle to protect our waters from devastating sewage pollution.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with artists from Take A Part ‘s ‘There Is No New Water - Toolkit For Ocean Citizen Action’ project taking place in Plymouth.
