Our wonderful staff and volunteers have taken our annual vote on our favourite films of 2024.

Each of us voted for our top 3 films. Plymouth Arts Cinema screened 162 films this year, and we all have wide and varied tastes, so as usual we don’t have a lot of consensus!

The most popular film, with 5 votes, is Poor Things, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Oscar winning gothic masterpiece.

In joint second place, with 3 votes each, are The Zone Of Interest, All of Us Strangers, and Kneecap.

Welcome to our first film programme of the next quarter-century!

We kick off the new year with Family Friendly holiday screenings of the incredible The Wild Robot and festive season blockbuster Gladiator II.

Queer, Nickel Boys, Maria and Babygirl are all essential new releases. We can't wait for Nosferatu to cast its creepy, gothic spell over us. And for something completely different, give Grand Theft Hamlet a try.

The Way We Live, Jill Craigie's 1946 exploration of the rebuilding of Plymouth after the Blitz, is a must-watch for any Plymothian, and we're pleased to be screening it as part of a series of events leading up to Jeremy Deller’s upcoming commission with The Box and the National Gallery, The Triumph of Art.

Looking ahead, we've also opened bookings for a few films in February and March including Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and NT Live: The Importance of Being Earnest.

Enjoy a relaxed cinema experience and immerse yourself into the story of Buddy (Will Ferrell), a regular sized man who was raised as an elf by Santa Claus (Edward Asner). When the news is finally broken to Buddy that he is not a real elf, he decides to head back to his place of birth, New York City, in search of his biological family, while also spreading Christmas cheer in a world of cynics in the process. 🎄💚

This festive screening of Elf will be shown with descriptive subtitles that display the dialogue as well as additional auditory information on the screen. This experience is also suitable for those with Dementia, Autism, and anyone who finds standard screenings overwhelming. 🎞️
